Summary:

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive, degenerative disorder that attacks the brain’s nerve cells (neurons), resulting in loss of memory, thinking and language skills and behavioral changes. An estimated 5.2 million Americans of all ages had AD in 2014. This includes an estimated 5 million people age 65 and older and about 200,000 people under 65, who have younger-onset AD. This interprofessional CE module informs nurses, physicians, dietitians, speech-language pathologists, physical and occupational therapists, emergency medical technicians and paramedics, and social workers about the trends in diagnosis and management of Alzheimer’s disease.

This CE course shines light on a situation that needs to be put out into the public more. Caregivers are not alone. We need to work together as a community and support each other with our loved ones that have AD.
